Would You Go Exploring The Greek Island’s Gorges And Ancient Villages On A New Eco-Tour?

Away from the bars and bustle, Crete’s spectacular White Mountains are opening up to sensitive and sustainable travel – with scrumptious food. On the Sfakia coastline (a mountainous area in the southwestern part of the island of Crete), small villages are connected by water taxis and footpath. For half the year the White Mountains are slick with snow, but in summer the rocky summits are famous for their gleaming, milky complexion, continuing to give the appearance of snow long after it’s all but melted away. What are your thoughts LiveTribers? Would you go exploring the Greek Island’s gorges and ancient villages on a new Eco-Tour?

I would definitely look into this. Having been to Santorini, Mykonos and Rhodes before, I absolutely enjoyed it and would be keen to revisit to contribute to their economy in a sustainable way this time.

This would be such an amazing experience and definitely something I plan on doing now that travel restrictions have relaxed. I love that there is a focus on Eco friendly tourism because it's important to maintain these natural attraction and it means you can have a guilt free holiday knowing you aren't causing more damage.

Yes I’d love to do an eco tour. As lots of others say the cost would be a concern but as this type of travel becomes more available maybe the cost would be as much as a normal tour.

I would absolutely love to explore Greece this way as long as it wasn't too expensive because of it being eco friendly. I have found a lot of eco tours are a lot more expensive. It would be a beautiful place to do it though.

Sounds very enticing, but think it would be too costly a trip for me. If I lived over there it would be a must, but from here to pay for the air fare and an eco tour being dearer the whole holiday wold be beyond me

Being an eco tour I’d be worried it would cost too much for me to afford this trip but if I could I would love to! Been to Greece back in 2015 with a tour and definitely didn’t see enough. I’m a history buff and the idea of ancient villages sounds amazing!

I would be interested, but as soon as I see Eco on anything I immediately think double to price of non-Eco. I travelled to Greece in the 1980's and would love to see the changes on the islands and what has stayed the same. I remember being invited in to have Ouzo with the locals when they found we were from Aus. Everyone seemed to have a relative in Aus and wanted to know if we knew them, even though we lived in Sydney and they were in Melbourne.

Spent 6 months in around the Greek Islande Great if you could get away from the tourist spots. Crete is lovely up in the hills just avoid the beaches and shopping. The history of early Crete is really worth a visit. Don't worry about Turkey invading they are far to civilized to do anything as stupid as that, it is just Greek paranoia they do not like Turkey. Shame we loved in fact it was our favorite of all the places we visited when we sailed from OZ to the Med.

Crete is the very best of Greece. I spent several weeks there and was so pleasantly surprised by the beautiful scenery, friendly locals, and not as many tourists as the much smaller islands. It does not surprise me that they are focusing on eco tourism. It is a place I would certainly go back to. Thumbs up to that and I will look at the possibility for next year.

I would absolutely love to. Not just Crete but also Delos for its ancient spiritual history that is so precious that no-one is allowed to stay on the island overnight as a security measure to protect it. I have felt drawn there for most of my life and I have spent most of my life caring for the needs of family and others that I don't think my body is capable of making the journey any longer.
