Why Is Needle Spiking Happening In Australian Pubs And Clubs?

Needle spiking has been making headlines across the world in recent years. One responder to Hack’s crowdsourcing campaign said after becoming aware of the rising needle spiking cases in the United Kingdom, checking for puncture wounds from injections became a night-out routine. Needle spiking is not a new phenomenon; however, drink spiking is far more prevalent. Beyond some scattered media reporting, it's unclear how big the needle-spiking problem is in Australia. What is clear is that spiking, especially in drinks, is not a problem that is going away. What are your thoughts LiveTribers? Why is needle spiking happening in Australian pubs and clubs?

Never heard of it myself. If it really was a problem in Australia we would be hearing more about it through the news-services. Maybe you need to concentrate on something more relevant than this, even tho it might be more of an increasing overseas problem.

Like a lot of people here, I have never heard of needle spiking before. Sounds scary.

I believe that the social conflicts between different class of people are very severe recently. People are having a very hard time under the current situation and have nobody to hold the grudge against. Needle is a way to express their desperation.

As an older person I believe that our legal system over time has reduced the punishment for most crimes. This practise of spiking to sexually assault unsuspecting victims should hold the most severest penalty possible in my view.

I have no idea, never even heard of needle spiking before. I guess people are more conscious of drink spiking so it's just an alternative to that.

Just something that some people think they can get away with and is flavour of the month I guess. I think they just want to harm or hurt other people. They are really cowards!
