Why Have Transgender Players Been Banned From Women’s Internationals?
Transgender players are banned from women’s international matches while
the sport’s governing body does further research on its inclusion policy.
International Rugby League (IRL) said it wanted to “balance the
individual’s right to participate, against perceived risk to other
participants. The IRL’s move comes as several sports are considering
transgender inclusion. Transgender swimmers were recently banned from
women’s elite races if they have gone through male puberty. World
Athletics President, Lord Coe, hinted to the BBC that the sport could follow
swimming’s example, saying it is set to discuss adopting a new eligibility
policy and that “fairness is non-negotiable”. What are your thoughts
LiveTribers? Why have transgender players been banned from women’s
Internationals?
I think they would have too much of an advantage due to being stronger and they
would be dominant in the competition. It wouldn't be fair to the other women in
the competition. Can you imagine being tackled by someone who was born male in
an AFL Women's match and being badly injured? I imagine there would be lots of
lawsuits and compensation claims made. The best solution would be for a separate
competition for transgenders but I can't see there being enough players
available for them to do it.
Apart from the probable physiological advantage, they would have known this when
they decided to change sides so don't cry foul when the rules go against you.
I probably think the governing body is feeling insecure about the supposed
strength level as it seems transgenders are most likely stronger than regular
women.
As there is an unfair advantage, especially if they were born male and went
through puberty as a male. Women spend ages fighting for their rights and now
that wants to be washed away in an instant, women should be treated fairly and
feel safe, why not create another category?
I really feel for these athletes as I completely understand them wanting to
compete in the gender category that they have transitioned to as that’s how
they identify themselves, but I do see the point that some of these athletes are
physically stronger, faster, etc and therefore may have an advantage over
others. It’s definitely a challenge that has to be looked into as ideally we
want all sports to be inclusive but at the same time it needs to be fair
competition.
While a person is born either male or female does not dictate the way they feel
emotionally and the right to transgender is theirs to pursue in their lifestyle.
On the other hand it is a well known fact that males tend to be stronger than
females physically and therefore there is inequality in sports of the
competition is based on current gender at time of competition.
I totally agree with everything you said. Although it doesnt seem fair that they
cant play in the same sport it would be not only unfair because of the physical
differences but might also be dangerous
It's clear most transgender athletes are physically stronger than women athletes
and it would be unfair to the women to compete against transgender athletes. It
would be equally unfair if transgender athletes were not able to complete. I am
sure that if we were to introduce another category for transgender athletes it
would encourage more transgender people to participate in sports. A win for the
transgender community and a win for all of us who enjoy watching sport and want
to be fair and inclusive.
I agree entirely.maybe there will be a separate "trans", league?The more ground
given the more they will take..They are called a"minority", group because they
are just that,a minority that gets what it wants when it wants.Thats one pushy
group.
I can feel this going wrong already but....I firmly believe men should race
men,women race women and Trans women race trans women. It's the only totally
fair way. There are strength differences between trans women and born women.
For me this question isn't political.
We have to also protect the rights of non trans women to complete in their sport
totally fair.
Rugby League is a physical game - transgender women have an unfair physical
advantage over biological women so should not be participating - not sure what
needs further research
Sorry & no apologies but the only female is one that is actually born one. No
amount of surgery, hormone replacement medication or anything will ever make
them a true woman. So I question how are they ever going to be a true woman?!

I agree that banning transgender men who have gone through puberty should be
banned from womens sports. Their muscle mass is naturally a lot more than
female muscles. That gives them an unfair advantage.
Good.....transgender athletes dilute the genuineness of biological female
performance and endanger real females in changeroom and restroom female only
areas.!
Trans players should not be allowed to compete against women if they have gone
through male puberty. If they have gone through male puberty & wish to compete,
then they should compete against men or other trans players. Common-sense should
prevail, synthetic hormones can only do so much, they will never completely undo
what nature has given, no matter how they feel or however much they want it to.
Indeed! A woman or a female person is genetically created with a double X
chromosome while a male or man has been created with an XY chromosome and it
doesn't matter WHAT bits you cut off or drugs you take to alter this you simply
CANNOT change biology. I will NOT play into the complete ridiculousness of
people who say "I'm gender diverse" or "I'm a woman who happens to have a
penis"! If you HAVE a penis then, I'm sorry to have to inform you, then YOU are
a man". Men do NOT have babies, menstruate or have a uterus. There are NOT 77
genes only two and I was actually listening to Sky News today and it was about a
freelance journalist who went to many overseas countries and asked people their
opinion on the subject. Well in interviewing the men from tribes in Africa,
when the question was posed "what is a woman" and he was told that people in
America, Europe etc believe that they can be a woman even if they have a penis
they were born with and even be a woman on Monday but be a man on Tuesday, well
they roared with laughter at the sheer stupidity of it. It's no wonder that
Russia and China think that the West is weak and has lost the plot because it
HAS! I agree with you wholeheartedly and if I wasn't exhausted I would continue
on the topic. But lastly I must say that the damage that the fruit loops
teaching our children these days, and I mean 4 and 5 year olds, that they can be
ANY gender they want to because when they were born the Doctor made a GUESS at
whether they were a boy or a girl, well they've gone TOO far! When THIS evil is
being perpetrated on children who haven't even worked out what their favourite
colour is but they can decide tomorrow that they are ""cake gender", I kid you
not, and you have 6 year old girls who are waking up through the night having
nightmares because they are terrified that they might have turned into a boy
overnight and grown a penis, well this is CRIMINAL even if it happens to be
legal! ! BTW "cake" identification is feeling fluffy and light and squishy,
just in case you were wondering. These evil psychopaths behind the scenes
orchestrating the destruction of social norms and society and the family
