In the last year Australia's population has
increased by nearly 400,000 people. This has lead to multiple problems such as
road congestions and the struggle to keep up with demands for hospitals and
schools. This has sparked debates on whether the growth is bringing a positive
or negative impact to the country. What do you think LiveTriber’s? Is the
population growth beneficial for the country? Or will is cause further problems?
What do you think will happen in the future due to the population growth?
Comment your thoughts.

What Australia has is not an over-population problem but a government that is
completely bereft of the will or means to provide for a growing population
problem. Australia has the largest bureaucracy per head of population of any
country in the world and they are the highest paid. Our governmemt is right now
borrowing funds from overseas lenders to prop up the day to day running of
government - and that includes their obscene salaries. As Vegandelight so
eloquently points out below - Australia has the planning and means to support a
massive population but our government is wilfully keeping us down for the
benefit of the privileged few. It's an absolute disgrace.
We have some of the largest iron ore mines in the world and what do we do with
it? Ship it overseas. Our mines are almost completely foreign owned and
effectively subsidised by our government.
Where is the secondary industry? Why doesn't Australia make washing machines and
sell them to China? Where is our automotive industry? The problem is not one of
overpopulation. The problem is a government system that cares only about lining
the pockets of themselves and their associates . . . at all of our expense' . .
Very True. That's another angle; good point. I can recall the study done by PM
"I did it my way" Gorton. He proved to us on January 23, 1970 that exporting raw
materials robs us many times the wealth it generates. His submission to Cabinet
used the example of exporting a million tons of bauxite, which is the ore that
aluminium comes from. Now, while the values have changed drastically, the ratios
have not. He wrote that we earned about five million dollars by exporting the
raw material. Processing this ore just one step further into alumina earns us
twenty seven million dollars. Further processing this alumina just one step
further into aluminium - with a processing simplicity I'm sure we all learned in
high school chemistry - yields us two hundred & seventy million dollars once
exported. Exporting the aluminium products made by just one more stage of
processing gives us a whopping six hundred million dollars. This was common
knowledge by all the 'greats' of the 1970s... Black Jack, John Gorton, Rex
Connor, Dr Jim Cairns & many more knew this & fought damned hard against fierce
crown-backed opposition & formed the Australian Industry Development Corporation
to fund such processing. And we all know what happened to each of them
individually. And what are you all doing? You blame it all on a handful of
politicians who cannot act alone against The Establishment because, one way or
another, they will be individually killed off & they know it - especially when
the Establishment Owned Media tell us each one died of plausible 'natural'
causes. If we all acted together, if we educated ourselves on these important
lessons from our Recent Past, if we expose the lies of Mainstream Media on a
Daily basis, if we ran our own background checks on politicians before we vote
for them, if we email them in number & often to overturn detrimental legislation
designed to paralyse industry & agriculture, then support them & reward
politicians when they do the right thing... then we have a hope of expecting
change. Until then, this useless undeveloped backwater, colonized for the single
purpose of becoming a strategic British Military base - and for NO other reason
their cleverly designed education system openly lies to you about, which
Military Base it still is today, by the way, will get exactly those politicians
the people deserve - and you've only yourselves to blame! Until you reverse
Competition Legislation from 1995, smash through the myths of individualism,
'efficiency' of private versus public ownership & the satanic Adam Smith moto of
"private vices can be used for public good", put down your petty differences &
focus your attention on working selflessly together to build this place for the
benefit of your future generations, just like your grandparents &
great-grandparents did, then, then you will experience something far more epic
than the great depression, when we could have built instead a dream island here
in many ways better than any on earth.
Australias population growth is over double its historical rate and should be
slowed considerably to allow infrastructure and services to catch-up. We should
also direct new immigrants to areas where they can be employed so they contibute
to growth. This was done in the 1940’s and helped the griwth of Geelong
Newcastle Woolongong, etc.
I believe that the population is growing in general but the government needs to
be able to generate the proper conditions according to the growth such as
health, education , infrastructure, roads etc. More people means more taxes and
money to work those things up. Even though the growing should be controlled at
I think the issue is not over population of Australia as a whole, it's the fact
that the population is growing in some areas only such as the cities and those
area don't have the infrastructure to support it. I live in a minor city and it
has nearly doubled in size over the last 5 yrs all the schools in the area are
at capacity or nearing, but the government won't put in anymore public schools.
The roads are grid lock and the public transport is nearly non existent end
don't bother getting public transport after 6pm because there is no buses and
trains run every 1-3 hrs. And don't bother if you need emergency as there is
nothing like a 4-6 hr wait even if you get an ambulance there is 1-2 hr wait.
But if you you travel out west or even to more rural areas the problems of over
population is not there.
We do not have the resources to have this number of people coming into the
country each year. The congestion on the roads is beyond a joke, our water
supplies are insufficient, our crime rates have risen significantly, housing
prices are ridiculously high due to the Chinese having unlimited money to put
into our housing market, thus preventing the Australians being able to afford
their very own home and our land is being bought up by foreign owned companies
who employ their own kind. Look after the Australians FIRST.
Australia is getting to the stage where it cannot keep populating a country that
is only populated along the coastline. Our Government system has not got the
money to support more immigrants when there are 210,000 children women - aged
living on the street or in cars. We must care for our own people first.
There is no existing national problem which will be solved by a larger
population. The opposite is true. The government should be encouraging young
couples to have smaller families by introducing a NON baby bonus !
Yes, Australia's population has grown way too much. We are a mostly desert
island, our only liveable areas are on the narrow coastal strip. This small
area is becoming way too congested with everyone wanting to live in the Eastern
Capitals only. Liveability in these centres is being destroyed...desperate
councils are allowing the mass building of high-rise people warehouses. These
will quickly become ghettos where crime will blossom, as it has done in the USA
& UK & all other countries where this type of high rise housing is the only
available accommodation. Also, some of the recent arrivals have displayed a
marked tendency to group together, refusing to obey our rules, laws, and way of
life. They refuse to work because they can get welfare
payments, and all sorts of other benefits, and they refuse to integrate into
culture & society. They express their hatred of everything we stand for, so one
has to ask, why were they allowed into our land??? They multiply like
rabbits, and refuse to speak English. How can we keep things on an even keel
with people like this in our midst???
Our farming practices make us one of the cleanest producers on the Planet,
and it all goes to the Asian market, while we are left with Asian chemical laden
produce that the Asians themselves will not touch. This is not fair.
Our people deserve to be able to purchase genuine Australian foods, not the
rubbish the Asians dump on us. Australia, at this rate, is going to hell in
handbasket, probably Asian made.
Yes it is, we are one of the last Continents with open spaces, & for future
generations, we really need to protect this area. We need to feed out people,
instead of exporting all the best foods overseas, Meat, grains, & Fish are all
exported to the detriment of our own.Oil & Gas get sent overseas, as well, while
we all struggle to pay premium prices to buy it back. Charity begins at home, &
In our case that is AUSTRALIA.
Is the population growth all down to migration though? Wonder how much of this
is just natural growth in the country. Also I agree with others about the
infrastructure. If our government had invested in infrastructure across the
country then perhaps it wouldn't be so much of an issue
YES very much so
It has gotten to the point where our school's are overcrowded not enough
teacher's to calculate for all or the amount of students per classroom
Our streets and roads r busier than several years ago Australia is a beautiful
place but something has to be done?
I think Australia is getting too large, no extra reservoirs, infrastructure
etc.The agriculture land is being sold for housing, therefore destroying
vegetation for our wild life . We are the driest continent in the world. We will
be slowly destroying our country and our identity.
We do not have enough water for one thing and with electronics making many jobs
unnecessary any more where are all these new immigrants going to find work.
People from other countries mainly seem to want to stay in the Cities which is
becoming a growing problem with Housing and other resources. I think the
Government should lessen the yearly quotas at least
It would be interesting to see who are immigrants or are from immigrant family's
who dont want more migrants contributing posts in regarding this topic maybe if
you deport unemployed New Zealanders we may have a solution to the problem, have
a look at Bondi in Sydney, Manly in Brisbane and the redcliffe penisular so many
New Zealanders on the dole, and if people think I'm a migrant I'm a 6 generation
Australian. How do you think Australia became what it is the answer immigration
especially after WW2 unskilled labour jobs Australians wouldnt do, Enjoy your
Yes it is. We are allowing too many migrants in who are a drain on our resources
and infrastructure while at the same pushing up housing prices. We should be
increasing our population by natural increase ie the natural birthrate, not by
unproductive migrants who sponge off the Government. We are in for a world of
problems with this ever increasing migration; the strain on infrastructure, the
housing shortage, tensions in communities, religious issues, conflicting
cultural values etc. The way that political correctness is heading, white
Australians will be increasingly marginalised in all aspects of life. Look at
what is happening in Europe, it is proven that when a population exceeds more
than 11% then the rot has set in for good. Look at your history, the decline of
the Roman Empire is a case in point.
Until infrastructure catches up with the current population definitely yes. It
is now virtually impossible to travel around the capital cities with ease at any
time. Public transport is woefully inadequate in its current state and the
arterial roads just an elongated car park during peak hours. Public hospitals
unable to meet demand I could list more but thnk you can see my point.
I've had this "Overpopulation Myth" Discussion here already. We have just about
the lowest people per square kilometer here on earth! Yes, we are one of the
most "urbanised" countries on earth, meaning all our people are concentrated in
our cities where they can have access to good services. But an increasing
population is an Entirely Natural Process! What is Un-natural, is Labor-Liberal
consecutive governments forming a Neo-Liberal Consensus, which we never voted
for, to prioritise international bankster cartels profits over spending taxpayer
money on building publicly owned infrastructure to support our growing
population. If the Financial Elite kill us down to their Magic Number, then they
know they can totally control us, but if our population booms, we will exhaust
their means to manipulate us. Now we have a low population & a lot of means for
them to control us & we have become a Police State. We had an immigration boom &
a baby boom after WW2 coinciding with the best long-term Labor Government the
world had ever seen. During those years, we had a Supreme Government Owned &
tightly regulated banking system which provided us with massive infrastructure
projects year on year to support an ever-growing, healthy & prosperous people.
Dozens of workable, profitable infrastructure systems have been designed &
accepted for roads, water, energy, schools, hospitals & more, but remain shelved
to this day! Menzies smashed the bank in 1959, killed of Chiefly & started a
murderous system of looting the physical economy for his banking mates & his
Queen which continued almost uninterrupted until this day. We don't have a
population issue... it's a political agenda issue & it's called the Economics of
Genocide which you all vote for! The future? It's up to you!
Yes, I can spot plenty of typos in there now, but there's no 'edit' button here.
We need to take a closer look at our real history, apart from what our
British-controlled education system wants us to believe. We had a system that
worked very well with capability to be expanded indefinitely. It was utterly
crushed repeatedly & the Whitlam era failed to properly revive it. There were 17
water infrastructure projects （for example） expertly designed & about to be
implemented (still very current & workable designs suitable for today) which
Guaranteed we'd never have floods, never have droughts & never dump many, many
Gigalitres of fresh drinking water into the sea each year like we're still doing
today! Each year, not only did we have a Federal Budget, but we also had a
Capital Budget, meant for funding Public Infrastructure projects which was so
successful that said budget increased substantially almost year on year. This
drove down the cost of living each year, drastically improved quality of life,
national happiness, standards of living, total elimination of Diseases of
Poverty (this was wrongly attributed to vaccines - since proven a total lie!),
improved roads, rail, ports - all improving export & import profits, protected
industries by fair tariffs (meaning you had a career for life in your chosen
profession)... the list goes on & on (books have been written on this!). Since
Hawke, Keating, Howard & Abbott - all in on the Neo-Liberal Consensus - have
illegally privatised successful public assets for private profits (Not more
efficient running, as the stupid excuse goes!) - also for their own profits, we
now have no more political will to build urgent public infrastructure, but so
they can throw more money at the banks to gamble derivatives with & get us
exponentially into more debt, they blame an 'increasing population'! They're
more interested in killing us off through the medical & other systems than
working for our benefit just so The Few can get a bigger slice of the pie at the
expense of The Many. The issue is not about population. Government exists Only
to serve the interests of We The People, not the Bankster Cartels, Not the
Crown, not the Lobbyists & not making the rich richer & the poor poorer. The
Neo-Liberal Political Consensus, which involves equally Liberal, Labor & the
Greens, must go. We already have the plans, the resources & the means & the
system right now to build this country as good or better as any on earth & even
faster than China. All we need is an educated population, because there are
politicians waiting to listen even now, both young & old, who have long
memories, even beyond their years! Vote No to perpetual war & Yes to
collaborative international infrastructure building for the purposes of ultra
fast freight & travel almost without borders. I guess you have no idea, but here
we have developed the fastest & further-est heavy freight shipping on earth &
continue to beat our own records year on year for over ten years straight. We
are gunned, we are ready, but we're being stabbed in the back by the starving of
credit to proven profitable development.
We Australians are already outnumbered by the amount of the foreign influx of
migrants and refugees already accepted in our country, you only have to observe
the change in laws to include their culture and beliefs in all our way of life
through political maneuvering for the next vote debacle. We are already
outnumbered and face a foreign controlled future.
what a general comment???
400,000 in one year??? where, must have been in one area to have caused all the
things stated.... Maybe we need to check our sources. We have no
problems,..... question should be IS ANYONE NOTICING ANY PROBLEMS in any
area.... IS LIVETRIBE AMERICAN COMPANY????
400,000 people per year growth is creating potential challenges in building
sufficient supporting infrastructure, is an issue when the majority of people
wish to settle in our major capital cities and thirdly, in the area of
integration into the general population - eg values, language, finding
sufficient work. With changing climates, water and food production risks have
increased but Unfortunately government policies are not instep with migration
nor do we appear to have a long term strategic view of how to disperse our
population and create entry level employment
Population growth is beneficial, however I'd not monitored closely, how will
vital infrastructure and funding keep pace. Roads, even in smaller regional
areas for example are becoming noticeably more congested. What about health
needs, housing and education also?
Too many people places loads on already stretched resources including fresh
water, power supplies etc & increases our reliance on other countries for
supplies & export business. I was very concerned with the recent water shortage
in South Africa especially given the similar latitude of our respective
countries. With the rapid technology expansion & people generally living longer,
I'm worried about the population to jobs available ratio particularly for non-IT
