How Is China Using Apps To Woo Taiwan’s Teenagers?

People use English on Instagram, and for Chinese apps they use Chinese phrases. An 18-year-old Earth sciences student, who creates art in her spare time, is part of a generation whose online life is increasingly influenced by content from China. That is worrying politicians and experts who fear young Taiwanese drawn to shop and entertain themselves on apps ultimately controlled by Beijing may be getting more than style tips and sharing more than memes. What are your thoughts LiveTribers? How is China using apps to woo Taiwan’s teenagers?

    It's funny how no one raised concerns when the younger generations grew up watching YouTube, which is full of American culture and subcultures. Then, all of a sudden, videos from China would be seen as having a negative influence, even if there is no violence or sexual content. It's truly amazing how hypocritical people can be.

    100%. For propaganda as part of their united fronts efforts to brainwash young people to have 'good China impressions and good stories of China'. Tik Tok, Wechat, Weibao, etc....

    Teenagers love using aps while older users do not. Teenagers will therefore always be swayed by what they see and hear on these aps.

    Apps will woo teenagers, period. There is a lot of misinformation in Apps as well.

    Social media will always be used to influence teenagers. This does not come down to China to Taiwan in particular, its a global situation.

    I wouldn't put it specifically down to China as teenagers all over the globe are getting more and more addicted to apps/ social media.

    Online life is effecting everyone, and it's concerning. Some people only learn "news" online and have next to no contact with real life. They are becoming robots controlled by AI. There were a whole lot of women who after watching Tic Tok decided to engage in the crack egg challenge by breaking or cracking an egg on their children's head or face. When the frightened, surprised or hurt child reacted they laughed. What sort of mother cracks an egg on her child then laughs? If something online can get you to potentially hurt child it's dangerous.

    I really could not care less! So what has this got to do with Australia? It's not even a relevant question or topic. What happens over in those particular countries is not of my concern. You should worry about this country and not what happens over there. How about a topic that is worthy of being published, not this one. Admin please take note;
