Has Australia Become Too Politically Correct?

National poll data suggests Aussies are sick of political correctness. An Institute of Public Affairs poll shows 69% of respondents surveyed support celebrating Australia Day on the 26th January, but the 26th January is branded by its critics as "Invasion Day".

National Rugby League (NRL) recently issued a warning to Cronulla Sharks forward Toby Rudolf for making "offensive and derogatory" comments after he joked in an interview that he planned to head to a pub and "pull" to celebrate a win. What do you think LiveTribers? Has Australia become too politically correct? Is there a struggle between political correctness and freedom of speech?

Yes, way too politically correct in all aspects. The minority has become the squeaky hinge in all aspect of life now and the media applying poultices of equal opportunity for all and ads showing every possible combination of feel good acceptance of all types of family structure is cringeworthy. These minorities think that they can erase history and sanitise all aspects of ongoing life. We may as well all become robots or cyborgs as there are so many 'individuals' that people have stopped looking, noticing or caring about their 'struggle for acknowledgement'.

Absolutely, in my opinion. It's almost impossible to have a conversation with someone when you don't know if you'll upset them

It's only because a very small minority of radical tree huggers who make a lot of noise that we have descended to this level of PC. Politicians listen to them as that's where they hope to gain their votes from. Until the silent majority stand up and say they don't want to play these silly games anymore things will only descend deeper and deeper into us loosing the right to speak our minds freely. When the secret police start knocking on our doors late at night it'll be too late to do anything about it.

It's the adults that have the issue, the kids are innocent of most of this. After all, Baa Baa Black Sheep being turned into Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep, sorry mate I've never seen a Rainbow sheep. Fair Penguins are Fairy Penguins and nothing else. Are they going to try to change the name of Fairy Floss next? And there's plenty more things we could mention.

Recent banning of Dr Seuss books because adults deemed them not appropriate was a bit overboard, i read all these books to my son and he was not affected by them, kids do not even notice these so called inappropriate things in the books. And now you cannot even buy or sell them!

Sadly, it’s not just Australia. The world has gone crazy taking “political correctness” to ridiculous extremes.

Absolutely we have.....why in God's name do we follow the woke , lefty dictates of California, the UK and European Union States!? Is there a group of nutters trying to change our world even though they are a minority? One wonders.....if we stayed off Social Media and got off our butts and walked outside and interacted with each other more maybe we'd all be a lot happier?
