Can Talking To Plants Help Them Grow?

In one study, researchers discovered that talking to your plants can help them grow faster. They also found that plants grow faster to the sound of a female voice than to the sound of a male voice. Other studies have experimented with different sound levels and even the kinds of things that are said to plants. Do they respond better to compliments or insults? What are your thoughts LiveTribers? Can talking to plants help them grow?

Music definitely helps. Japanese farmers use classical music as part of the routine to grow rock melons with excellent results.

My late husband always told the plants off if he thought they weren't growing as fast as he expected or wasn't giving the crop he anticipated. Seemed to work for him, but I haven't used the technique yet and the plants are still growing well.

yes, apparently talking to plants at night can provide extra CO2, which will help them grow for sure

It's been suggested that the carbon dioxide you emit when talking to plants helps them grow. I don't believe it helps the plants but I do think it's good for the individual.

I'm not sure if plants respond and grow faster when we talk to them but I'm going to try it! Considering the miracle of growth, how a tiny seed can grow into a plant or gigantic tree, anything is possible. I talk to my dog (who's deaf!) and my chickens so why not talk to my plants, too :)

I dont really believe that talking to plants help them grow. I definitely think it is more about knowing what the plant needs and treating it appropriately. Like more light or less water or more sun, etc.

I used to help my grandma in the propagation shed at work when she was growing plants and in her massive manicured garden at home filled with all types of plants and helping her water weed and care for her beautiful yard. We would talk to them and around them while caring for them and I would sing to them and including the natural habitat in the creek bed at the end of the yard her yard was amazing and won a few awards. So I believe yes they enjoyed our little chat times and having us tell them they're beautiful. Also saved numerous plants but also may weeds. Also got the occasional rose thorn prick so maybe they didn't all like my voice.

Plants sense vibrations in the air and are sensitive to movement and heat changes, so standing close to a plant and talking would be noticed by them....but would that help them grow faster? Probably not unless all the right conditions were at hand and the plant was healthy in the first place. There are so many different plants, and different factors like health, nutrients, age of plants, water needs.. There would have to be lots of different things working together to cause any real difference to the plant.

This theory has been around for years. I read a book "The Secret Life of Plants" many years ago where these theories were put forward. I wasn't convinced. One study says it does help, another says it doesn't. I'm a keen Gardener, I don't talk to my plants, however, I look after them by using plant food, mulching around them, and pruning when required plus removing weeds. That helps them grow faster - nothing else

I read that book when it was released. I'm not sure about it either and I think some of the claims have been refuted. Some people might feel a connection to their plants and talk to them but I doubt whether it helps them grow better.
