Are Vapes ‘95% Safer’ Than Cigarettes?

The message that vaping is 95% safer than smoking has backfired, encouraging some children to vape. A public message that was announced years ago should have been clearer that vaping is only a tool for adults addicted to cigarettes. Vaping is not for children and young people - it is making lots of children very sick, however serious complications are rare. There are many children and young people who have taken up vaping who never intended to smoke and are now likely addicted to vaping. What are your thoughts LiveTribers? Are vapes ‘95% safter’ than cigarettes?

It doesn't matter if vapes are '95% safer' than cigarettes. They're both bad for our health anyway. So, don't smoke or vape.

No way are they safe! do we really know what is in the blasted things. NO. so why risk your life using a thing you know nothing about and what is in it, just because your mates puff on the thing does not do it for me, if your mate jumps off a cliff would you ? think !

Vaping is more dangerous, you are inhaling chemicals that are far more dangerous and addictive, but also you tend to inhale harder and it goes into the lungs more and stays there causing disease to slowly build up. Please everyone do your research and tell everyone, it is a poison! Very sad that young people are causing permanent damage to their lungs.

I think vapes are very dangerous for young people who then can't overcome their addiction to vapes, plus we don't really know the long term effects of vaping. As for quitting smoking, this is one addiction replacing another, from one who is addicted to nicotine chewing gum!

It seems that every time they create alternatives to addictive products, those products then become the next addictive product. And have you noticed how expensive all the addictive products are? I'm glad I stopped smoking and drinking and I will never even try anything addictive again. People need to make the choice to lead a healthy life.

no. Vaping has its own issues and the scary thing is, we still don't know the long term effects it has on the body. Also the fact that people are using it who have never smoked shows it is not something to use to get off cigarettes. too many young people are addicted.

Both are bad. Vaping has not been properly researched to come to the decision that it is better than cigarettes.

They both dangerous! Vaping is breathing a chemical into your body. Recently it has been acknowledged that these vaping devices have blood and contaminated with faeces and sometimes drugs.

Definitely not. I'm an ex smoker now reaping the benefits of my stupidity - short of breath with exertion as well as the likely hood of respiratory illness in the future. I'd discourage any form of smoking including vaping.

I remember the debate about introducing vapes. The Government wanted time to study them but were drowned out by people pushing to get them. They were introduced without due investigation and now we have another problem. I see people with them everywhere, even in stores. Has one single person ever given up smoking because they took up vaping? I don't think so.

Very likely NOT.....even non nicotine vapes cause a warm moist chemical cocktail to enter the lungs and blood stream..... surely not the most healthy thing to do. But young and stupid NEVER changes!!!!

While some evidence suggests that vaping is likely to be less harmful than smoking, it is not risk-free. Individuals seeking to quit smoking should consult with healthcare professionals for personalized advice on smoking cessation methods, including the potential use of e-cigarettes

It was another underhanded way to get our young to smoke, which is a very hard addiction to stop. Vaping is just as bad if not more so and many will start buying cigarettes if the vapes are banned and made extremely hard to get hold of. I feel sorry for our young ones and wish more had been done to outlaw the firms that are selling these things.

Claims that vaping is safer then smoking reeks of an industry desperately trying to reinvent itself before it becomes extinct. I can only hope that governments globally place an onus of proof on the manufacturers of vapes to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that their products are safe for human consumption.

This is just another money-grabbing product that has stooped low enough to suck in young people instead of the addicted adults they were first supposedly manufactured for, however, as with all products the owners of said product end up getting greedy and money becomes the objective instead of the temporary assistance they were meant for. don't know what's in them then no. they aren't any safer than the cigarettes they are meant to replace. Both are harmful.

It is just a substitute for cigarettes. I know people who started vaping to try to quit cigarettes but now vape more than they used to smoke. They have more chemicals in them than cigarettes and are more attractive to young people.

It should be banned completely. The problem in society is that there is always someone out there trying to make money out of people's addictions. Vapes were introduced to help with addiction to cigarettes and it's just caused another addiction and people out there are making a lot of money from that.

Who invented vaping in the first place? Someone in America probably and they allow a lot of stuff to be sold to the masses. So much for their regulations about safety. Australia should properly check the safety of products before allowing them in to our country. And if teens are vaping then parents need to know what the teens are doing with their money. It shows how gullible and stupid some teens are that they thought vapes were safer.
