Why Was A Transgender Cyclist Forced To Stand Alone On Podium After Win?

A transgender cyclist is facing backlash after she won a female category of a grueling gravel race and then posted on social media about other competitors bailing before the medal celebration. She says she has no idea why so many people bailed before the podiums, while posing alone with her arms aloft in victory. She also came in sixth overall in the female category of the race, beating 35 other cyclists. The event has a non-binary category, which she did not enter. She easily won her age group, beating second-place racer Lindsey Kriete by 17 minutes and third-place rider Michelle Van Sickle by more than 30. What are your thoughts LiveTribers? Why was a transgender cyclist forced to stand alone on the podium after win?

Transgender people don't belong in female competition. It's so wrong!

Transwomen are women. Transmen are men. Non-binary is a separate category again. There's nothing to fear. Transphobia has no place in sports.

I'm sorry, but there are only two genders. The others are man--made up constructs.

Quite obvious really. She unfairly won a race against other competitors when she was not qualified for that race. The other competitors must feel the same way and have distanced themselves from the celebrations. I applaud them for their stance. Females compete against females and males against males. That is the fact of the matter. The transgenders can compete in the category for which they were born.

We keep hearing the term inclusion, now we see what it means,a person born a male can compete against females, real fair.

It is unfair. She would have a physical advantage as she was born a male. She should compete in their own separate competition. Otherwise it is not fair for the females competing in the race.

Transgenders must be separated in the sport from normal people. Even more - in two groups depending on the direction of trans.

This is happening all too often now when a transgender male enters a female competition and usually wins. Last week a transgender took the position away from a girl and he went to the Nationals. I would pull all the kids out of that competition personally and let him go alone. I call it cheating.

The person identifies as transgender, ergo she is not female. , and ineligible to compete as a female.

If I were an athlete and a transgender woman entered to compete against me I would refuse to compete. It isn't fair. I am an adult female, have never been a male so have no male DNA or any of the benefits a male has over a female. Good on them for avoiding "him". It is simply unfair and shouldn't be allowed.

I think the competition was being inclusive by having a non-binary category - perhaps she could have entered that category. However the times between competitors seems obscene, is it even a professional competition?

Everyone else thinks it unfair for them to compete against the females. The only ones that don't agree are the Transgenders themselves and then they wonder why no one likes them when they win..

I'm a big supporter of the LGBTIQ+ community. It seems to me that the eligibility criteria for entry into the competition needed to be clearer. If the event was open to transgender people, and that was made clear up front, then the transgender competitor won fair and square.

There was a race for transgender separate to female races but this person vetoed that to race against women. Sorry, just because you want to be called a female and act and dress like one does not one make you.

I don't think anyone could call it 'fair & square' Sue. Their biological makeup is so different, regardless of what surgery they have to make themselves 'female'. Let them compete in their own category but not in the female category. I haven't heard of any transgender person competing in the male division - has anyone else?

so unfair. i wouldn't stand with the transgender winner either. its a loophole to cheat and win. of course the females in the category would be upset and no way would want to celebrate the win.

Unbelievable, shouldn’t have been allowed to compete in that category when there was a designated category already. How proud they must feel to have a very unfair win. These non binary beings feel so entitled these days it’s shocking.

Should have entered the non-binary event - given that there was supposedly one. Probably worried wouldn't win in that category. Very unfair on the females who entered the event meant for them - I don't blame them for not sharing a podium with the transgender person in this situation. This person should not be allowed to enter female events when there is an alternative for them.

Should not be allowed to enter full stop. Women have fought for years for equality etc. and it is being ripped away from us by these transgender individuals saying they have the right as they are female. Wrong. I have/had a uterus (born with one) they don't. They have the Y chromosome - I don't. If they still have their private parts but acting as a female they are not even medically female. They should not be going into female change rooms or toilets etc. I am disgusted by parents not letting their children be called a boy or girl but a them/they/it or whatever. Children have problems when they become teens so imagine what this will do to them all because of some foolish idea. People have been called male and female for millenniums but only the last little while this seems to be a problem and if you call someone by a gender you can lose your job. Madness.
