Why Is The Forbidden Kingdom Of Bhutan Turning Into A Ghost Town?

After centuries of isolation, Bhutan opened its doors to tourism in the 1970s. But when the ABC was granted rare entry into the country, it found a nation losing a high proportion of people, mainly to Australia. In the eastern edge of the Himalayas, the Kingdom of Bhutan is one of the most isolated nations on the planet. It wasn't until 1999 that the king, surrounded by his four queens, announced Bhutan would become the last country in the world to introduce television and the internet. The tiny kingdom has long been called the happiest nation on Earth and is known for its monasteries and unique landscapes. What are your thoughts LiveTribers? Why is the forbidden kingdom of Bhutan turning into a ghost town?

The 100,000 ethnic Nepalese that were forced to leave Bhutan in the 1990s seem to have been forgotten in an attempt to paint Bhutan as a wonderful peaceful idyllic kingdom. The reality is that Bhutan is intolerant of anyone who is not Bhuddist.

I think most people do not know enough about Butan and are making assumptions. Ask the people who live there or those who have left, I have never met anyone from Butan personally. I like that they do not kill anything, non violent country with no crime. Yes they do eat meat buy only if the animals has died or is accidently killed.

. Fact is Bhutan has launched welcome back tourism policy with honey, tumeric and SIM cards and significant reduced visa fees. https://www.reuters.com/world/the-great-reboot/bhutan-welcomes-back-tourists-aft er-covid-19-with-honey-turmeric-sim-cards-2022-09-23/ Sharply constrasted with the high cost of living in Australia. The Bhutan king is young, educated in modern education in the West and he has the will to modernise this country. Materialistic developments shouldn't be the only way to judge the success of a country and why Australia denounces other countries simply because they are not Western. To Buddists around the world, Bhutan is like their nearest approachable paradise like place to visit.

If it's so backwards them maybe they are part of the problem. Improve their own country first rather than run away to wealthier countries like ours.

They should stay in their own nation. It shows lack of respect.
