Should Australia Adopt New Zealand’s Government Ban For Young People From Ever Being Able To Purchase Tobacco?


The New Zealand government will ban young people from ever being able to purchase tobacco in their lifetime under world-leading plans to make the country smoke-free. It has been announced that only older generations will be able to buy tobacco products with very low levels of nicotine, and fewer shops will be able to sell tobacco products. The measures are part of the government’s new Smokefree 2025 action plan. What are your thoughts LiveTribers?     New Zealand has a lot of rural areas which will allow outlying areas to grow tobacco - a new homegrown industry for those unwilling to give up smoking. So the ban will largely reduce commercial products for smoking and make them less visible. Usage might reduce but won't be stamped out.

    vaping will become a big deal and black market tobacco and the use of other products to substitute it will be used. prohibition has a proven failure record as ammerica found out can others not learn by there experience

    No. Although it sounds like a good idea this will just make them want it more and buy it illegally. Will lead to more crime I think. Education of the highest order of the dangers of smoking would be the best way to tackle this.
