We are born fairly innocent and big hearted until we become influenced in the 24 hour news/social conditioning by our environment, society and the system that we are all a part of. We are losing empathy and compassion in dealing with other people because of high-tech dependence and over-stimulation of our minds. What do you think LiveTribers, is western society a selfish society?

To say that western society and only western society is selfish is unfair and untrue. It's western society that is less unfair than non western countries. Your comments do not bear with the actual facts. There is only so much compassion to go around. Everyone has their own personal struggles to deal with too. Only the elite have it much easier.
Sadly yes. With how society operates these days it is difficult to show any empathy as there are many issues we face in our lives.
I think everyone has to be a little selfish and that's OK but when the rest of the world is in trouble or our fellow Australians, Aussies come to the fore with large donations and help. They send clothes, food, money, physical help and support. We are the third top giving nation following on from US and Canada and yet we only have 27 million people. I think there is too much negativity towards others in this world today. In 2021 NZ and Ireland listed in the top 4. Seems like the smaller countries are doing very well at helping out other nations in trouble. Why ask if just western society is selfish, I don't think any country or person or culture has a monopoly on selfishness or in fact being charitable.
Personally most people are selfish these days...Get used to it. Going to be worse in future.
yes we are selfish bunch, we are conditioned by greed . The more we have that some one else doesn't makes us feel self important . When you have media telling us how much wealth x and y have you know that something is wrong , when there are people in this country barely making ends meet . as for technology i am grateful for it with out it i would have a silent world but over all greed and selfishness is rampant in western society

An agnostic and atheistic society always reverts to the cult of I. That's why adversity and unfortunately War really focuses a selfish Godless Society's behaviour on helping each other rather than self. Enough said....YES....we are undoubtedly a selfish bunch when all is good......for US!!!
