Is Australia Doing Enough To Stop Domestic Violence Related Murders?

Domestic violence is one of the most significant public health issues in Australia. According to the Australian institute of Health and Welfare, one woman is killed every nine days and one man is killed every 29 days by a partner. Despite the consistent funding, including the Morrison government’s additional $328 million into the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children, domestic violence is occurring at an alarming rate in Australia and is likely to record a spike over the holiday period. What do you think LiveTribers, is Australia doing enough to stop domestic violence related murders?

Why should the government have to come to everyone's rescue because of the increase in domestic violence? It has always been around but some people are silly enough to hook up with the wrong person. Use your head and leave! There is only so much any government can do.

Many thousands of women are suffering from homelessness in Australia each night trying to flee from domestic violence. There needs to be more safe places for these people to go. If women do not feel they have somewhere safe to go to get away from a dangerous situation in their homes this can endanger their lives if they have to stay there. They need safe choices so they can have some breathing space and safely find somewhere away from danger.

Our Justice System is too out of touch and weak to adequately manage so called domestic violence. Immediate gaol for domestic assault and effective and monitored electronic perpetrator tagging might be effective if sensibly overseen. Lack of basic Christian ethics in all levels of modern society is the root cause of domestic violence.

Of course not. Drugs, drink and in some case cultural attitudes are a huge reason. Then some just have no decency killing wives and children, partners, etc. or bashing them in the belief they have the right or they feel they are disrespected or whatever lame excuse. Protection must be the first port of call for the victims then depending on the severity incarceration as they have to be held accountable. Too often nothing is done. Too often the warning signs have been there. Too often the victim has asked for help and again nothing is done. We have to teach the younger men respect for another person whether male or female and any age. We have to teach women to also be accountable for their behaviors as some do go beyond the boundaries also. It is a world wide problem and it crosses all boundaries and socio-economic levels. The funding has to be put to good use. Firstly, safe houses and plenty of them. Secondly education programs in schools.
