Ex Machina is a sci-fi film where a programmer is invited by his CEO to administer the Turing test to an intelligent humanoid robot. Once you watch it, you’ll never stop thinking about it. Another sci-fi movie, ‘In Time’ is a film portraying a future where people stop aging at 25 and need to buy time to live, the rich become immortal while others cease to exist. Sci-fi has been preparing us for changes in technology for years. Look at the PADDs used in Star Trek: they look a lot like our tablets. AI is just another use of technology that has appeared in sci-fi and will appear in real life.
Sci-fi movies gave been known to get us "used to" a new idea in future technology. Scary times ahead folks.
I have been amazed at how much the original Star Trek programmes by Gene Roddenberg have actually come to pass. Don't think I'd like the move you have described though as most of the children I have seen are still very immature at age 25.
Those movie crazy Yanks make most of the sci-fi......given that a majority of them appear to live out their Hollywood Fantasies in real life of course it will be a money fuelled self fullfilling prophesy!!
sf-fi movies are for entertainment and often well researched into the scientific community but with some like terminator or Ex Machina I think that their is a certain amount of poetic licence applied to make a more intriguing movie. I do not think that any AI will ever match the total working operation of the human brain with its almost uncountable operations.
