Has Alan Jones Gone Too Far?

2BG presenter Alan Jones is known for being outspoken but his latest rant has left many thinking he’s gone too far. It’s believed he is on his last strike with at the radio station after a misogynistic tirade against Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand where he said that Scott Morrison should shove a sock down her throat. What do you think LiveTribers? Do you expect this sort of behaviour from Alan Jones? Has he gone too far this time?

If he has yet another tirade at a powerful woman I do believe he should be fired. His behaviour cannot be justified by whether his targets were right or wrong over something, that is irrelevant. It is simply that basic respect should be expected from all public figures. He certainly could have the same treatment given back to him, but like most bullies, he would get all indignant over receiving his own treatment.

What exactly is the problem? I’m a kiwi and though I have no idea who this man is or what the context is I’m assuming that he means he wants her to shut up. Personally she says a lot that has me sharing the sentiment, and furthermore as a public figure should expect that there will be many who will openly disagree and use strong language. So no I don’t think he should lose his job over this. But I’m not part of his audience so the real question should be this has he scared of his audience or not? It’s the only question that really matters here.

Roger, Allan Jones is a highly intelligent man who made those comments in response to Ardern’s stupid, rude comments about Australia shutting it’s entire coal industry down, can you imagine the devastating effect that would have on our economy. It seems that this strange, emotional woman has something against Australia, witnessing her less than friendly recent meeting with our prime minister.

for someone who years ago showed proclivities towards being tolerant of and acceptance in himself of gayness it is sometimes accepted that women are accepting and feel safe with men of that tendency on outings or as companions So I find it hard to stomach that in this case the numerous cases he show almost a vengeance to women comes out in the man eg Clover Moore, women of the opera house a year ago, Julia Gillard, Arden and several others. The silly thing is that he tried to carry on a day or so later on his Sky News and trying to gather what looked like token support from Peta Credlin

Alan Jones wrote a letter of apology (probably by email) to Jacinda Ardern who graciously accepted it, saying she doesn't listen to everything everyone has to say about her in other countries. She has enough critics in her own country. She also said that she believed that the Wallabies being thrashed by the All Blacks in the Bledisloe Cup was retribution enough. Good on her!!!!

No, he hasn't gone too far. Nor is he a misogynist, having seen him assist many women with their problems, be it monetarily or otherwise. Jacinda Ardern should look after her own country and butt out of ours. Also, as a 75 year old, on more than one occasion I have used the expression "Oh, put a sock in it" to get someone to shut up. If I'm really annoyed, I might tell them "I'll put a used sock in it" if you don't shut up. That doesn't mean that I will literally shove a used sock down someone's throat. It's a metaphor that's been used for years but maybe the digital users have never heard of it. Those Twitter Nutters need to be more aware of sayings from years gone by. They need to get a life besides being addicted to their digital "things". Besides, he's a commentator!!

It enrages me when obviously challenged individuals defend Donald Trump - But to defend this antiquated dinosaur just shows me how many are so desperate to get attention,to be so contrary to logical thought, without the ability to see how pathetically inadequate they must be to even post their thoughts, just to get attention? Is it any wonder we end up with pathetic State & federal Governments after elections. And why are so many women so quick to show jealous envy towards another woman? because your lives are so empty, and you feel so inept & inadequate? sorry to say,but you leave yourselves open to judgement in not so benevolent ways. But you are amusingly predictable - I'll grant you that much :)

Alan Jones always goes too far. It's what his audience demands. Advertisers make a big show of leaving him, but many go crawling back a few months later. He is gold to these people. Who cares that he is a racist, homophobic, misogynistic, elitist moron - he pulls in the ratings and it seems the majority of Australians agree with him (or else they would not have voted in the LNP at the last federal election) so, bad luck - Alan Jones is the perfect representation of what the modern Australian looks like. No wonder the rest of the world identifies Australia as the most racist country.

GJ. Climate change is rubbish. The mean average world temperature has gone down by 0.5% over the last 100 years. Climate comes in cycles , I remember snow falling in Mid summer and having to water the garden by hose in the middle of winter. 500 million for countries affected by climate change should not be given. These same countries have been complaining over the last 50 years that they were going to be covered by water , it has not happened , they simply want money. Alan Jones is abrupt , rude , but right , he could have expressed his opinion better.

The fact that he changed what he said shows he overstepped the mark on this occasion, but the fact that global warming is a natural cycle that will reverse itself, as it has done in the past, is still true. Do the research, don't just mimic the majority, they were wrong before, and they still are, a loud voice does NOT make it correct.

Firstly, I am an Alan Jones supporter. This was not a misogynistic comment. I think, it was a patriotic remark... if it was said about a man there would not have been any outrage and if women want equality they will have to take the heat. Ms Ardern needs to keep out of the Australian parliament. Anyway, the left would love to rid the airways of Alan Jones - their ideology stands in the way of truth and he exposes it.

yes, he is employed for his specific opinions, but I believe approving violent behaviour against people he disagrees with is going too far. He's a smart man, he can find another way of venting. Problem is, he's also extremely arrogant - and doesn't see his opinions as less than perfect advice.

He isn't a shock jock for nothing. I agree the comment re NZ PM was quite OFF but again the Pacific Islands constantly demanding more and more money from us is also OFF especially when their islands are not sinking - in fact growing in size - and if they had honest government officials, they would not need handouts. They need to learn to stand on their own two feet and be self sufficient.

Free speech is one thing but rudeness in insults to a Prime Minister are not okay to or about anyone. Alan Jones has a big head and thinks he can say anything. He is a person, just like us, and needs to learn some common courtesy and manners. You can think what you like and say things at home, but on a national broadcaster? NO.

All those holier-than-thou people screaming for Alan Jones' head, ask yourself if you've ever thought of someone "Put a sock in it". It's as Australian as Kangaroos, meat pies, football and ummm (OK, forget holden cars). With the carrying on of the Kiwi idiot lately, telling Australia we are bad, bad boys for not kow-towing to the bs coming out of the Pacific Islands, I'd suggest she, umm, puts a sock in it.

I don't think the majority of the younger generations or Immigrants to this Country have any idea of the "old" sayings. She is a "pip squeak" and shouldn't be telling this Country what to do or say. Yes, I am an "oldie" but of boy, I am getting so fed up with people being upset with the old fashioned way of saying things. You have to be on your guard so much not to upset anybody with an innocent comment. Unfortunately Mr Jones is so passionate, he does get a little carried away at times. If he wasn't around to say what he says, there are many who would have no idea of what is happening in the Country we live in.

Jones has a perfect right to disagree with the New Zealand Prime Minister, be they male or female. But to recommend a physical attack on that person because of their views is reprehensible. I just wonder how Jones would react if someone else in the media suggested that he should be physically harmed because of his views?
